PS 21.2.7 No Red overlay for brush

I am running High Sierra (was on Mavericks) and I updated my PS to 21.2.7 (I can't go any higher) and now when using the ctrl alt brush size shortcut the red overlay is missing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and reset preferences. I don't know what else to try but I hate not having it anymore. Any ideas?

Hi

It's working fine for me with Photoshop version 21.2.7 using Alt and right clicking with the mouse

Have you checked that your GPU is been detected and that OpenCL is enabled in preferences

What type of GPU do you have, have you tried updating the driver from the manufacturers website

Take a look here https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-gpu-graphics-card.html

Also can you post your Photoshop system info, in Photoshop go to Help > System Info, hit the copy button and paste the entire thing into this thread

So it seems to be a thing. But I can't go back to an older version. This is my only option. The newer version is not compatible for me. Under older versions this is my only choice. What do I do Adobe? This is a big issue.
