Artistic, Brush Strokes, Sketch and Textures filters are greyed out.  I'm using RGB.

I process photos in Lightroom and export some to PS for further processing - I wonder if LR is now exporting them as 16 bit instead of 8?  I confess I've never really paid much attention to that side of things!

You really do want to continue to export in high bit (what Adobe calls "16-bit") to keep editing the images**. At some point, if there is no other option and you must use these filters, you'll have to convert to 8-bit per color but I'd do this as a last step if possible and KEEP the high bit version.

What is the bit depth of the document? Some filters will not work on 16/32-bit images.

16 bit.  Never had this issue until the last update.

Many filters have been this way for decades. Not all filters will operate at higher bit depths.

The following filters support 16-bit/channel and 32-bit/channel documents:

  • All Blur filters (except for Lens Blur and Smart Blur)
  • All Distort filters
  • The Noise > Add Noise filter
  • All Pixelate filters
  • All Render filters (except for Lighting Effects)
  • All Sharpen filters (except for Sharpen Edges)
  • The following filters under Filter > Stylize:
    • Diffuse
    • Emboss
    • Trace Contour
  • All Video filters
  • All filters under Filter > Other
