PS CC 2017 - A stupid feature or a bug? You tell me

So I've upgraded to Photoshop CC 2017, yay. But then I noticed a very annoying and unusual behavior to PS when trying to select layers and move them. It also took me a few tries to understand how it works.

It seems now that if I want to move a layer or multiple layers, my arrow (for selecting and moving) has to be EXACTLY on the layer itself, meaning on the pixels that are the layer, not empty space. If it's not on the layer, it will deselect the layer/s I've selected and move whatever layer I actually touched. If there's nothing or the layer is locked, it won't do a thing and deselect the layers I've selected.

In addition, if I select multiple layers, I have to touch one of the layers included in my selection or again it will deselect and move the layer I actually touched.

The video I've attached shows this perfectly:

I've been working with photoshop for years and I never ran into this kind of behavior. If this is a new feature and not a bug - please change it back!!! It will be very frustrating if every time I'll want to move a layer I'll need to touch it precisely with my cursor. Just think about it.

For now, my only workaround this is selecting what I need, then hitting transform, move to where I want and apply.

If there is a way to cancel this, maybe it's a new option they added, IDK, please someone tell me how.

Thank you.

My gratitude for this answer from someone else who's just discovered this feature for the first time, thanks to this response!

At first I wanted to instantly turn it off..  but now I'm wondering if I should give it a try.  Once I've gotten used to it, it might be really useful!

Hi Lee

I would say - it depends what you are doing .

If are positioning various elements in a montage then it can be the best thing since sliced bread. At other times it can be a nuisance.

Me - I generally leave it unchecked but then check for specific tasks. It is always nice to have the option.

Edit : I should also have added - don't forget that with it unchecked you can always hold down the CTRL key (Cmd on Windows) with the move tool to select the layer in the same way as if it had been checked

Thank you dave!! That is weird, I don't remember ever unchecking that, especially after an update. But I did feel some things reset for me in this update, don't know why. Well - problem solved.

Many thanks!
