I am having trouble with files saved by PS as Tiffs and then later going to open them I can watch the files changing clarity in front of me then making the file unable to open otherwise the file is getting affected somehow...? any help appreciated.

Thanks for getting back to us on this. Articles I read say that Tiff supports all the characteristics of a PSD, but I consider PSD/PSB to be native to Photoshop and only save flattened Tiffs to hand off to others who do not have PS or the need to access layers.

So there is a feature on MAC OS that many photographers have complained about for years. The OS when showing a preview of the file, both in thumbnail and OS preview (pressing spacebar), where it seems to blur/smooth the image to eliminate banding and other aliasing issues because of scaling at abstract view percentages. This is a well discussed topic in many forums "OS X Smoothing/Blurring of Previews".

What doesn't make sense to me is that you say it causes the file to then have issues opening? As in, opening it back up in Photoshop is a corruption, or do you mean you can't open a preview in the OS? The layered TIFF files can sometimes have issues getting corrupted when the file size gets large. I see this with attendees to my conference workshops where they start in Lightroom, come to Photoshop, and then when they press Save it defaults to TIFF.

My advice would be to use the .PSB format if your files are large, and see if that has any differing effect.

This is the first I have heard of this or seen it, once the file smooths out its gone, corrupted. I do go LR then PS and save, but then the files are saved seperate from PS to another folder of comp Images where I just pick out my best, I might switch to PSD/B and see where i go from there.

Thank you all for your help much appreciated.

You need to give some details.

What version of Photoshop are you using ?

    What operating system?

How are you attempting to open them - e.g. File - Open ?

Are you getting any error message.

I don't understand when you say "I can watch the files changing clarity in front of me". Can you please explain further.

Not sure how to attach a screenshot, latest version of PS MacOS Seria after opening a folder that contains many files sometimes one will change clarity and go all washed out and this makes it unable to open, no error message it is all a bit confusing me to also, then I can go to that folder at a later time the file is back to full clarity and able to open.... am confused also...lol

Odd. Any chance we could see a screenshot of this happening?
