PS freezes and crashes when using liquify tool

So recently, I needed to use the liquify tool, and whenever I pressed on the liquify button, or the shortcut, PS just freezes and crash. There seems to be no working solution to this problem in the discussion page. So if anyone has a workaround for this to offer, I will really appreciate it

Tried everything. Uninstalling and installing older versions of PS. Uninstalling and installing my graphics driver. Restarting and rebooting the computer. Fresh Windows install.

Definitely don't think hardware is the issue over here.

CPU: Ryzen 5600x
GPU: EVGA RTX 2080S

RAM: 2x16GB 3200Hz
SSD: NVME 1TB 980

Monitor: AOC 2560x1440p 144Hz

Please, if anyone that has a fix for this, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share your solution for me and the community at large.I have attached a link below to a screen recording for a better understanding of the issue. Many thanks in advance!

Had the same problem and found a solution that worked for me. Idk if it would work for you but I hope it does

Update to the latest version and then go into Preferences - Technology Previews and check Older GPU mode (pre 2016)

That worked for me and no more crashes using the liquify tool

Had this problem, to solve it I tried the Photoshop update and the preference setting suggestion here, It did not work so I checked Nvdie GeForce Experience Software to see if I have the latest driver for my 1080ti, It worked! I still ticked the "older GPU mode" tho, just to make sure.

It actually mean you use 60% of the ram space. That is why it's closing the Photoshop which is actually small for liquify tools because you are using 4GB ram.

1. Simply increase your ram to 8Gb or

2. Increase the percentage usage to 80% by going to Edit >> preference >> performance then increase the percentage.

Hello, rolling back to november drivers fixed the problem. However this is not the ideal solution.

And historically; the Ps Team had lots of contacts with nVidia, they are pratically neighbours (10 minute drive)

Same problem for me. Only fix is to disable Directx-12 by checking the pre 2016 version (older GPU on technology preview on preferences). Of course this is not the ideal solution!

I have the same problem but none of the suggested solutions worked for me.
Even when I went and installed the older version 23.0 , still didn't work.
I don't know what to do now if it's not about the latest update.

This issue has been noted and addressed on a few other posts - try this:

Hold Opt or Alt and then choose Liquify? Does it still crash?

It may not be specifically a GPU generated issue, but it appears there is a noted bug that is triggered without a reset of the filter. Holding Opt or Alt when chosing resets the filter.

Hello I am have the same issue as well I have done what people have suggested even after using smart filter this is what happens to my workspace... Every time I use the liqufiy tool. I have updated defaulted settings, my pc is fine its specs can completely handle it. This has never happened until now.

So i turned off my graphics processor to see if it would work and its wokring now but this is not ideal.... i have a rtx 3060 i got like 6months ago and i want to utalize it sooo anyone have any ideas as to why its working without this enabled? I have the drivers up to date its worked in the past idk if the latest drivers i messing with photoshops updates?

If turning OFF the GPU works, it's a GPU bug, and you need to contact the manufacturer or find out if there's an updated driver for it. This is why disabling GPU is an option as more and more functionality moves to the GPU in newer versions of many Adobe products.

Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Multithreaded Compositing - and restart Photoshop.  Still crashing?
Go to Preferences > Performance... click Advanced Settings... and uncheck "GPU Compositing" - then restart Photoshop. Still crashing?

Hello!
Thanks for the reply, I followed the instructions above, and unfortunately, PS is still crashing. Do you have any other ideas why this might be happening? Thank you!

Try rolling back a version or so and let us know if this is still crashing. In Adobe Creative Cloud, select PS, click on the three dots and select "Other Versions".
