PSD created on MAC doesn't open on Windows

I've saved a PSD file on my mac mini, but when I'm trying to open same file on my Windows machine it says:

Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document

My photoshop version is same on Mac and Windows: 24.4.1 (latest)

Issue was solved automatically after windows restart... This may be because I haven't restarted PC after updating Photoshop to latest version!

A period in the file name will choke on Windows if file extensions are set to hidden.

 

As long as extensions are set to show (which IMO it always should), a period in the file name will work correctly. Windows "counts backwards" until it sees the first period character, and treats that as extension.

 

All goes to show that using period (and othe system reserved characters) in a file name is risky. I routinely replace those with an underscore. Underscore is not on the "reserved list" and is always safe.

    How do you get the file from your Mac to your Windows computer?

    Please check the file size in both Mac and Windows. What size is shown on each one?

        I came across a file-naming convention that works on MacOS but fails in Windows. 

        If your file has a period in the name  before the .psd, Windows will read what comes after the first period causing an error like the one you see. Image.21.psd as an example. It will open normally in MacOS.

         

        I also would check File Handling under Preferences. It should be set to "Always."

         

        To  be honest, it doesn't look like that from your description.

          Does this occur with all Photoshop documents or just one?

            All photoshop documents saved on my Mac. The bizarre thing is that if I'm trying to save same file to creative cloud from Mac, then load it from creative cloud on Windows it will work. This looks like a bug... Before latest update, files were cross-platform portable.
