Puppet Warp in a Video Timeline

New Here ,
Aug 05, 2019 Aug 05, 2019

Is there a way to get puppet warp to work in a video timeline? If not is there a easy way to replicate it in a frame timeline without editing 100+ frames? I am using CS6 Extended.

I know After Effects can get it done but the preview render times are killing me.

Would you really expect an obsolete version of an image editing program to offer better video editing performance than an actual video editing program?

So far Puppet Warp cannot be animated in Photoshop as far as I know.

Not all of us are as privileged as you to use such ''superior'' software.

It’s not a question of »superiority« but of adequacy.

And your apparent hope that Photoshop would do After Effects’ job better/faster than After Effects seems overly optimistic.

Not all of us are as privileged as you to use such ''superior'' software.

In the original post you seemed to indicate that After Effects’ render times are the problem, not that you don’t have access to it.

"And your apparent hope that Photoshop would do After Effects’ job better/faster than After Effects seems overly optimistic."

Haha, what makes you think that? It's a different category how would you compare AE with PS. Your thinking is ridiculous.

I said ''superior'' in response to ''obsolete''. Don't you think that is all relevant? For someone using mainly PS and makes simple GIF's AE might be ''obsolete''.

Render times are a problem because i don't have a rig sufficient enough. And with AE being monthly and yearly payment these days doesn't make it any easier for someone hard on cash. THUS no access to it.

Maybe you should learn to think before commenting useless time wasting ridiculous sewer fluid.

"So far Puppet Warp cannot be animated in Photoshop as far as I know."

That is the only "already known" poor contribution you made.

"IF NOT is there a easy way to replicate it in a frame timeline without editing 100+ frames?"

You're probably one of those reddit guys who get off on karma points.

Photoshop is image editing software with limited 3D and animation capabilities.

Animating what is called »Puppet Warp« in Photoshop is not exactly the most trivial task.

Your hope that Photoshop would perform a relatively involved animation task more quickly (without the »preview render times«) than After Effects (the dedicated video software in this comparison) seems to betray a degree of optimism that the situation did not seem to warrant in my opinion.

For someone using mainly PS and makes simple GIF's AE might be ''obsolete''.

No, it may be »redundant« but not »obsolete«. (Edit: That is if we talk about the applications in principle and not about specific versions.)

I guess you may have taken umbrage at me calling Photoshop CS6 obsolete.

Well, it is obsolete even though many image editing tasks are effectively unaffected by the improvements in the versions released since.

And if you want to stick with it that’s a perfectly legitimate choice as long as you take the necessary precautions (making sure you are able to roll back any and all software and hardware updates in case they »break« the set-up) and don’t have to exchange files with users that use newer versions.

Again many features would not be affected but some data from files created in newer versions may be inaccessible in the older one.

editing 100+ frames

There may be video-tutorials around that fails to mention converting the Layer to a Smart Object before duplicating and puppet-warping the instances for the Frame Animation.

Doing that will naturally not improve the performance but it will make later edits of all the instances possible along with maintaining edibility of the Filter applications without aggregating unnecessary damages.
