Puzzle Texture for CS4

Community Beginner ,
Sep 01, 2010 Sep 01, 2010

I have hunted and searched all over the internet looking for a puzzle texture that can be loaded into my Photoshop CS4 textures.

I have found textures, but none seem to have the right file extension. I called Adobe and they were absolutely no help whatsoever.

Can anyone help me? Please??

I haven't done much texturizing, but this tutorial seems to indicate you can load a Puzzle.psd texture right from within the files Photoshop provides.

Just scouting around, it appears that Puzzle.psd file was only provided by Adobe through Photoshop CS3.  However, a Google search for "Puzzle.psd download" turns up a bunch of possibilities.

Thank you for sending me the link. Whenever I

find a puzzle "texture" it isn't loadable as a texture. Would you or anyone else have some insight as how best to load these files into Photoshop so they can be used as a texture? Loading textures requires a specific texture extension that many downloads don't seem to have.

I tried it and was able to load Puzzle.psd as a texture.  How are you attempting the load?

PS simply expects them to be saved as PSD and be properly prepped (due to the transparencies). That's all there is to it. You cannot simply load any random JPEG from the web...

I'm trying to load the texture by going into Filter/Texture/Texturizer and then attempting to "load texture" through that process. Is there a different way?

That's the way to do it.  Have you located a copy of Puzzle.psd yet?

I have. It's a PSD file. When I open it up in Photoshop, it has two layers: a blue background and the puzzle layer. Can you help me get it loaded?

What does Photoshop do when you try to load Puzzle.psd from the Texturizer?

The Puzzle.psd file that shipped with Photoshop, and which loads fine into the Texturizer, is 160,544 bytes and has just a Background.  Perhaps you should try to find another different copy...  I will try to find a link.

I found one and I got it to work! I can easily add the puzzle texture. I guess this is just an aside, but it seems that the texture needs to be obtained each time I use Photoshop. In other words, the next time I open PS, the puzzle texture will not be present in the program. I will have to retrieve the file on my computer again. I'm fine with that. I just wondered if that was how it works or if I missed a step to make PS actually retain the file within textures.

Either way, thank you so much for your help. It is greatly appreciated!

No problem, glad to help, and thanks for reporting back that you found one that worked.

I just checked both Photoshop CS4 x64 and Photoshop CS5 x64 and I see the Puzzle texture in the Texturizer after closing and reopening the application.  Did you actually hit OK in the dialog?  It may only save the loaded textures when you hit OK.

I did hit the OK button. The puzzle was there in the drop down menu, but once I choose another texture to load, like "feathers", the puzzle disappears and is replaced by feathers. That's ok. I can now got to work on my project. Thank you again for all your help.

No one here can provide a copy to you directly because it's licensed software, part of an earlier Photoshop release.  Even sharing a link would be promoting piracy.
