About five months ago the hard drive on my trusty 5-year old laptop failed, taking with it my PS CS5.  Since my software had been the "second computer" from a 2012 purchase by my son-in-law, and he'd gone the CC route in 2015, I'd been without PS since January.  Yesterday, while cleaning out some boxes of CDs (drum scans, etc.) I found the old CD that showed what I think is my back-up copy of CS 6 from probably 8-9 years back.  The past few months I've been doing everything with LR, waiting until I get a new computer in August.  Finding the copy disk was good luck.  I can use PS for 75 days, albeit an old version.  My problem is, the CD says the serial number is [removed by moderator] and when I tried to load it, Adobe came back and said it could not continue since it wasn't a valid number.  So . . . what is the number I have (it was sharpied on the CD) and is it possible there's some simple solution like, there's a number or letter out of place, or an extra number that's throwing the registration off?  Any advice would be appreciated.

You should you should not post your serial number. A thief will make off with it. Ask a moderator to remove it. Most likely to late now...

You may need Adobe Customer support to activate a new install since you old activated machine went belly up.... You wrote CS6 and CS5 now its ps 5 the befor Activation I believe. You would be better off buying Photoshop Elements if you want a Photoshop type editor.  It missing some important Photoshop features but is most likely better than PS5.

Actually, I should have identified the old CD as containing Photoshop 5 !!!   Yes, that's very old.  I mistakenly said CS5.

May not be able to go back to PS5 time frame though My old info is not longer in my Adobe account the oldest one I see is PS 7 I believe at one time I also had PS3 and PS5. I did have a Problem with my account though many years ago. The serial you posted was most like incorrect. PS5 is before Adobe Camera RAw and Photoshop Scripting.....
