Questions about paths (thicker path lines, deleting segments)

Two questions about paths:

1. Some path lines are thicker than others in 21.1.0. What does that mean? (see image)

2. Whenever I delete a path segment it prompts "This operation will turn a live shape into a regular path." Why does it say that? I don't have any shapes, just paths.
