Quick question about installation

New Here ,
Mar 16, 2023 Mar 16, 2023

How do I change where I want to install an app?  I am trying to go to Creative Cloud preferences, but all I see is a color theme drop down list.  Could someone point me to the right place to go to edit my installation preferences (e.g. Desktop, etc.)

Thanks!

Hi @Emily28915875ahmt applications have to be installed in the default system location or you will have issues attempting to launch.

I'm guessing this is because you're running out of disk space? (That's usually the reason).

The answer is that this is not the way to do it. The space saved is negligibile and totally insignificant in the big picture. There are much more efficient ways to free up space.

A large part of the installation will in any case go to the user account which has to be on your system drive.

Plus, as Kevin points out, you might get unpredictable problems running the application.

@Emily28915875ahmt

In Creative Cloud, go to your Avatar > Preferences > Apps > Install Location > Edit

I did this once. My reasoning was that all of my Adobe apps were loose in my Applications folder, and I wanted each version neatly and tidily in its own folder. Unfortunately, it was impossible to set PS as a default application so double-clicking from Finder stopped working and I had to right-click instead. I set the install location back and never did anything so foolish again.

I am going to the upper right blue icon (assume that is avatar), going to preferences, but I still see the dumb drop down icon select light theme, dark theme, etc.

How are you getting to Install Location? Is there another way to do so,

Thanks!

Emily
