Question

Quick Selection Tool is slow after the 23.5 update

Hello,

I am working on a Windows 10 Dell XPS 15. Here are the specs :

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.21 GHz
Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable)
Device ID 45A12079-1C3C-4486-B43A-2E3F2A4D8F06
Product ID 00330-80000-00000-AA722
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Before I upadted Photoshop to 23.5 the quick selection tool used to only take about 2-3 seconds to finish a selection. I am working on isolating very simple objects from plain backgrounds. After the update the tool lags for about 1-2 minutes until the selection is done. When you are required to isolate tons of images, of course it's a huge obstacle to my workflow. Tried tweaking my preferences and resetting them, no avail.

Would appreciate a quick solution.

Hi there,

Thanks for the details. Please check if disabling the graphics processor helps (Go to Photoshop's Preferences > Performance and uncheck Use Graphics Processor and restart Photoshop).

How much spare hard disk capacity do you have? Do you get this issue with all images or particular ones?

Does rolling back to a previous version help?

We have a similar issue reported with the object selection tool; you might want to look: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/object-selection-very-slow-response-photoshop-23-5/idi-p/13144777.

Let us know if it helps.

Thanks,

Ranjisha

Hello Ranjisha.

Thank you so much for your reply. Yet , I tried your tip and it's still slow. To answer your questions :

- I have 322 GB free on my C drive and 433 GB free on my D drive so I don't think it's hard disk space issue.

- This issue occurs with ANY kind of images really.

- I haven't tried rolling back to a previous version as I like to keep all my apps up to date in case there are any fixed bugs in the updates.

Thanks again
