Question

"Oil Paint" option in Photoshop 21.2 all greyed-out now (Mac Catalina OS 10.15.5)

Hello,

I Mac is updated to the latest version. I updated Photoshop this morning (21.2) and now the option "Oil Paint" is greyed-out when I try to use it.

I've contacted Adobe online service but they couln't help me. The technician said it is my graphic card that need to be upgraded. I, then, contacted the phone service of Apple and they told me that with the update all is updated including the graphic card, so they couldn't help me. I really use all the time the "oil Paint" function, it is very important to me.

Do you think you could help me please?

Many thanks in advance.

The oil paint filter only works on RGB images. By any chance is the image CMYK or other?

Yes, I know this. I always use it in RGB.
The problem is something else.

Thanks

Under Preferences > Performance, GL should be checked.

Please go to Help > System Info and paste the information here.

Apple updates the graphics card for you when you do the regular updates. Check to see if there are any pending.

That's great that restarting did the trick.

Regarding 64-bit -- that has nothing to do with the image itself. When you install Photoshop there is a choice of installing the 64-bit or the 32-bit version of Photoshop. My guess is that you did install the 64-bit version. You can read about the differences at https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/64-bit-os-benefits-limitations.html#:~:text=The%20primary%20advantage%20of%20using%20the%2064%2Dbit%20version%20is,%2C%20using%2064%2Dbit%20Photoshop.

Hello Barbara,

It is me again. I have closed PS and reopened it again just to see if I would have the Oilpaint function back, but unfortunately it is greyed-out again.

I am down, I really don't know what to do, it comes again and again, even if I do what is supposed to be a solution.

The only thing I see that is left is try uninstall/reinstall with the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool, even if you wrote me that it is not usually the solution for that kind of problem. What do I have to loose. I really need to use the OilPaint function. I am an illustrator and I use this in every of my pictures.

Please, do you have a last idea.....

Desperate.
