Reason for shadow look

In this tutorial shadow look is given for left strip [time: 7.43]. What is the purpose of giving shadow look here? I assume it is the shadow of the parachute. Do you have any other meaning?

    Hi @MahaB82A my first thought it the shadow gives the illusion of depth, meaning that strap is on top of the can. However its not very pronounced and I would add more and make it look like the shadow on the center left of the can.
