Question

Reducing a photoshop image for web without losing quality

Hi.  I work in Photoshop every day, but there are some things that are beyond me.

I have a 1200 x 317 x 300 dpi image that I use as a banner for my etsy store.

I am trying to reduce it to (with minor trims) to 320 x 100 for an web ad for the store,

but the reduced image loses sharpness, has jagged edges.  How can I make this happen?

Thanks.

PPI (not dpi) doesn't matter for web graphics.

Was the original created in Photoshop or Illustrator? A vector design from Illustrator will scale smoothly, while a Photoshop file must be resampled. You can try different resampling methods but sometimes it can be tricky depending on the design.

You're going from 580 000 pixels total to 32 000 pixels total. That's about 6 - 7 %.

So yes, of course you'll lose detail and smoothness.

This will be particularly noticeable with text.

@Terry38682566pw5j what settings are you using when resizing? Bicubic sharper, smoother, etc.
