refine edge tool bug

Ive tried with human hair and animal hair. Ive searched every tutorial youtube on how to proper use the Refine Edge tool but still no luck. The tutorials make it look so easy but when I follow it step by step, it just doesnt make a clean selection, instead, it takes the selection I make out of the original photo. Please refer to the photos. Its just super frustrating. Ive tried de selecting the"graphics processor" in my Preferences as Ive seen it in one of the discussions, still doesnt work after. I have the latest version of photoshop. What the heck is wrong with this tool?! I just want to make cleaner edges 😞
