Remove Tool brush not showing.

I recently installed Photoshop 2025 (26.3) on a Mac Mini M4 Pro running OS 15.2. While using it today, I noticed that the Remove Tool brush is not present, but in its place is a small circle with a diagonal line inside. All the other brushes in that panel are present and working properly. I'm sorry that I cannot provide a screenshot, but the cursor/brush disappears when taking the shot.

What am I missing?

I may have discovered the problem. Just for fun, I told the Remove Tool to remove distractions (people). I got a message that the tool could not be used because the program is running in Rosetta. I need Rosetta to use and infrared editing tool called CLiR.

I quit PS and deselected "open in Rosetta." Upon reopening the program, the Remove Tool works as it should. Of course, the CliR plugin panel is absent. It would appear that the Remove Tool is not compatible with Rosetta, and I will have to be cognizant of of whether or not I need the latter whenever I open Photoshop.

I’ve experienced this issue too. It might be best to try a new or alternative approach.

Is the Remove Tool still in the Tool Bar or is it the same issue you orginally asked about?

The Remove Tool is in the Tool Bar just as it was before. All the other tools in that particular panel are also present, and they still have their brushes that work properly. This would seem to be the same problem as originally, except that PS is not in Rosetta mode, at least I don't think it is.  I disabled "open using Rosetta"  before opening the program., and that box in "Get Info" remains unchecked.

Oh, there is one difference. Now when in the Remove Tool, if I select Distractions, I do not get the message that it cannot operate when Rosetta mode is active, indicating that Rosetta is probably out of the picture. So the only issue is that the Remove Tool brush does not appear, just a small circle with a diagonal line inside.

The layer selected in your screenshot is Channel Mixer Adjustment Layer and that's why your getting circle with slash cursor with the Remove Tool.

You can create a new blank layer at the top of the layer stack, then in the tool options for the Remove Tool check Sample All Layers.

The Remove Tool should then work on theat new blank layer.

When I create a new layer, it does not automatically go to the top, but I can move it there manually. Still, even with "sample all layers" checked, I still get the small circle with the diagonal line. Here is a screenshot from a different image that I am currently working on. FWIW, these are infrared images.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it did not work.

Like this cursor that the red arrow is pointing to?

If so, that means the layer selected is not a pixel layer that can be modified by any painting tools because it might be a Smart Object, Adjustment Layer, Text layer, etc

Can you post a screenshot that includes the Layers panel?
