Whenever I have used the new Remove Tool, the area that fills is always brighter/lighter than the surrounding area.  I don't see any options to control this result.

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?

Are any Adjustment Layers involved?

What are the Tool’s settings (see Options Bar)?

All Views You Requested are here.  The item to be removed is the traffic cone toward lover left circled in red.  Upon removal, the fence parts are brigher than the surrounding area.  There are no additional layers.  There are very few options to select.

Strange, the result I get has problems, too, but does not appear brighter.

Did you do it in one Stroke?

Yes, in one stroke.  When I used the tool on other images I get different discolorations and "artifacts" which I can only describe as far less than smooth.  With a very small sample I notice that the tool works "best" in areas of continuous tone.  It remains to be seen if I can confirm that across several different images.  The tool needs work.

I note that the image I uploaded after the tool was used produced a dark circle, which is not how it appears on my very calibrated monitor.  It comes up brighter, not darker!!

I find taking taking also a 'fair' piece of extra padding around the area you want to remove works best

Here is just the section of fence where the remove tool brightens/whitens the area of removal.  I sent this image to myself as a test and the whiter portions show up.  I hope they will when I upload the image now.
