Remove tool help

New Here ,
Nov 12, 2024 Nov 12, 2024

When I use the remove tool, it replaces the person removed with a verison/part of another person in the photo. Generative AI is turned off on the remove tool. It was removing objects and people just fine a few days ago. I'm brand new to photoshop, so I'm not sure if there is a setting I'm missing.

Hey, @Gus1192. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. Here are some tips if you need help with the feature replacing your object instead of removing it.

  • Enlarge your selection - if your brush stroke is too tight, you will have unexpected results.
  • Remember that removing an object means painting over it, its shadow, its reflection, and any non-contiguous pieces. If you leave behind a shadow, a reflection, or a disconnected piece (e.g., a hand on a shoulder), the AI will attempt to create something to cast the shadow, reflect, or complete the unbrushed discontinuous item.

I hope this helps.

@Sameer K Hi. I tried that and I'm still getting the same result. Here is an example.

For workflow like this, I'll suggest trying the Remove Tool's Distraction Removal workflow > People mode.

I've tried it & removed the pilot based on the result you've posted.

Thanks!

Hi @Sameer K

I'm trying to remove all of the extra people in the photo, not just the pilot. When I tried the same remove distractions, it filled it with other AI generated people. Is there a way to use the removal tool without AI? I used to be able to just circle what I wanted to get rid of and it would remove the item/person with no issue.

Sure! You can use the Remove tool & set the mode to 'Generative AI off'.

The results will be computed on your machine & it may take several retakes and refined selections to get the desired results.
