I understand your frustration, but you just can't expect anyone to keep software from 2006 up and running. They have done enormous (some of us would call "life-changing") updates to the Adobe software and it would greatly benefit you to update to the newest Photoshop.

No laws were broken. You got your money's worth out of the 2006 version, right? As a fellow Photoshop user, I highly recommend subscribing to Creative Cloud. There is so much you're missing out on! To begin, when you subscribe, you always have the most up-to-date version, which allows them to constantly improve the software. (Rather than having to wait for a yearly update as we did in the early 2000's, we now get them as often as they can provide them.)

The activation servers to Photoshop CS were turned off a while back, invalidating the old CS serials, and a non-activation version of CS2 with a new serial was offered as a replacement. Unfortunately the window to get it has closed and Adobe is not providing CS-CS3 installers anymore.
