Removing an Object from a Picture

Explorer ,
May 11, 2024 May 11, 2024

I am trying to remove a building from a picture using the Generative Fill, Patch and Clone Stamp tools, as seen in the images below.

Below is the selection of the object I want to remove:

When I use Generative Fill and instruct it to replace the building with "blue sky" thisis the best result:

When I use the Patch Tool I get this result which trying to partch from the right side of the tall tower:

I also tried the Clone Stamp by sampling the sky to the right of the builidng but it was not very satisfying either:

What is the best tool to use for this type of editing?

Thanks!

I wouldn’t recommend focusing on Generative Fill alone but the result I get does not seem that bad.

THanks.  I used Generative Fill but had less success witht he colour matching, for some strange reason.  I also used Content-Aware Fill and got a similar result:

I'm not sure why the colour is so consistently off. When I sued content-Awre Fill I sampled the colour immediately above the slection, and got a much darker patch, which I'm now trying to lighten.

Thanks for your help!

Did you have any adjustment layers higher up the stack?  If you did, you need to turn them off while making this sort of edit, and turn them back on afterwards.

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?

This is the first edit I'm making to the image so don't have much to show on my desktop.

Thanks for your help.

In the future please post proper, complete screenshots instead of snippets.

Did you try Generative Fill again?

Below are screen shots of my entire process. I stuck with Content Aware Fill - in previous attempts it seemd to be a better colour match.

I cannot discern the Sampling Area.

Please try the Remove Tool and Generative Fill.

Unfortunately the sampling area disappered from the screen when I hit Windows-Screenshot to capture my desktop. THe sampling area was directly above the artea to be replaced, in oroder to get the best colour match.

That would not seem like a great sampling area as you need content for the lower parts, too.
