Removing Pattern from Animal

I need to remove all the pattering off this giraffe for my project, I am having trouble figuring it out, I have tested out the stamp tool, auto removing, and even drawing over it but it doesn't look convincing at all. The project is to copy a photo provided to me, a drawing a child drew, so that is why the giraffe looks that way.

I'd recommend trying frequency separation to make your modifications.
