In PS2021 I could hot command-cntrl-F and the last used filter was applied, this isn't working in PS2022 and each time, it will bring up the effect dialog box

Are you trying to apply the last filter used to a smart object? The keyboard shortcut will apply the last filter to a regular layer, but if you're applying it to a smart object, it will open the dialog box where you can make changes.

Yea, it's a smart object. Can I not get it to repeat the filter without the
dialog box?

Good catch , Myra! Just in case, on a PC, the shortcut to reapply the last filter is CTRL+ALT+F, wich usually translates to CMD+Option+F. I have to remember to check at home if it is well the case.

Ah! very good, on a Mac, the reapply last filter is indeed CMD+CTRL+F, this is very useful, as it allows to add Option to bring the dialog of the last filter... on a pixel layer.

Unfortunately, adding Option does not allow to reapply the last filter without a dialog on Smart Objects.

What’s your goal for repeating the filter on a smart object? Do you want to:

  • Apply the same filter to the results of the first instance of the smart filter.
  • Apply a second instance of the smart filter with the same settings (that is, duplicate the filter instance that’s already applied to the smart object).
  • Double the values already applied to the existing instance of the smart filter.
  • Something else…?

The reason for the question is because on a normal (non-smart-object) layer, the purpose of applying the last used filter again is to apply it to the results of the last time the filter was applied to the pixels on that layer, building up the effect. But because a filter on a smart object is nondestructive, deferring altering the pixels until output, applying the same filter again can’t mean the same thing.
