Replaceing contets of smartlayers

Hi,

I work a lot with smartlayers in my daily workflow.

In a current project, I have two smartlayers that a copies of each other. They each link to the same jpeg. Now, I want one of the smart layers so it links to a different file, so I relink it.... but that changes both smart layers. Is there a way to only change one of the smart layers?

Best

That happens when the smart object is a linked object. In that case you have to change it to an embedded smart object first, use the menu to duplicate it and then change both layers back to linked objects.

Do not simply make a copy of the smart object by dragging it to the 'new layer' icon in the layers panel or pressing Cmd/Ctrl-J, but choose 'Layer - Smart Object - New Smart Object via Copy'. That will created an 'unlinked' copy of the smart object, so you can edit it independently from the other one.

Thanks for your reply!

Yet, the 'Layer - Smart Object - New Smart Object via Copy' is grey - unavailable. What am I doing wrong ?
