hi there, a bit of a PS noob but tried the colour replace function and it doesn't give the result I'd like. I want to retain the texture and just swap out the colour ideally. I do have images of the other colours, but wasn't sure how to get the text and the variance in light/shade of the colour as well - would clone, or a custom brush work better, any guidance would be appreciated!

this is the original image, I want the colour of the mat changed to a cream, soft green, an olive green and magenta:

this is one of the colours I want - the cream:

I was able to do this (colour replace) and adjustment layer of Hue/Saturation - but i can't get the depth or  variance in the colour that I'm after to make it look realistic

appreciate any feedback and suggestions!

thanks!

Don't use Replace Color. It's a very crude tool that never does what people expect it to do. Replace color is a sledgehammer.

The proper way is to make a selection of the area you want, which you can turn into a mask for any imaginable adjustment Photoshop can offer, most of which will be much easier to control than Replace Color.
