I have the same question. In Photoshop for Windows PC, how do I resize the text bounding box? I can't seem to do it easily. Holding Alt or Shift or Control doesn't seem to make a difference. The text is always distorted. What is the secret?
In this screencap, I want to get rid of the empty space in the text boundary box and make it fit the actual letters.
1 Correct answer
If you just transfrom the text layer you will distort enlarge or reduce the text. box is blue…
If you select the text tool in the toolbar and the text layer the bounding box changes and you can reduce/enlarge /distort the box without affecting text. Box is black…

By PamelaDbqI have the same question.
Your question is not the same. The OP was looking for the toggle button that is in Illustrator, not Photoshop. I've branched your post to a new thread for you.
At first glance, it appears that you have an empty text frame, but it's hard to tell. To resize it, use the Type tool and one of the eight anchor points.
If your text is distorting when you resize it, then you have Point Text instead of Paragraph Text. Did you start with:
- Drag a text frame and type
or - Click an insertion poin and type
Please show a screen shot that shows:
- Your Type tool (Tools panel)
- Your text selected with the Type tool
- The options bar for the Type tool
- The Layers panel with all your layers showing and the type layer highlighted

Thank you, didermazier! That works!
Here are the steps to resize a text bounding box without distorting the text:
• Make sure the text layer is selected.
• Choose the Type tool (NOT the Move tool, and NOT the selection tool)
• Click into a line of text. A bounding box will appear that can be resized without distorting the text.
