Resize tool doesn't work anymore: Photoshop 2025

Hello, since Photoshop last update, I can't resize anymore with the moving tool. I use to press ctrl+T to be able to resize manually but it doesn't work anymore 😞

Hi @Jeremy38974524ni4z,

Thanks for the details and screenshot. First, please update Photoshop to the latest release, v26.10.

If the problem continues after updating, try this:

Press Ctrl+T to enter Free Transform.
Click the ✔ Done button in the Options bar.

Now select the Move Tool, click its dropdown menu in the Options bar, and you should see the option to Reset Tool.

Please give that a try and let us know how it goes.

Sorry to hear about the resize issue in Photoshop 2025—frustrating! Since resetting preferences and checking "auto-select layer" didn’t fully resolve it, here are some additional troubleshooting steps for the Ctrl+T (Free Transform) problem:
Ensure "Show Transform Controls" is enabled in the Move Tool options bar.

Confirm the correct layer is selected and not locked (check for a lock icon in the Layers panel).

Go to Edit > Preferences > Performance, ensure "Use Graphics Processor" is checked, and try switching between Basic, Normal, and Advanced GPU settings.

Verify you’re on the latest Photoshop version (check via Help > System Info).

Reset the Move Tool or Free Transform by right-clicking the tool in the toolbar and selecting "Reset Tool."

Could you share:
Your exact Photoshop version (e.g., 26.0)?

Operating system (Windows/macOS and version)?

A screenshot of your workspace with the Layers panel visible when you try Ctrl+T?

I have the same problem. I can Ctrl-T to select the required layer with a bounding box but cannot transform, e.g. scale, it. I can resize images in Microsoft outside of Adobe so I know it isn't a hardware problem. I am using Photoshop 26.7.0 on a Microsoft Surface Pro 7 (i7, 1Tb HDD, 16Gb RAM, 128 Mb Graphics card.) "Use Graphics Processor" is selected and has only Advanced Settings. (I can only select or deselect "Use Graphics Processor"). I can select a Tool (eg Move tool) and click to see a "Learn More" video but cannot right-click to reset the tool. When I select the Move tool "Auto-select" is checked.

Note: I also have Photoshop CS6 installed on this laptop but it is not running and everything was ok until the recent PS 2025 update. Please help I am wasting so much time.

As Clair has suggested, we need more information to have any chance of working out what might be happening for you. Right now your post is confusing as the Move tool (shortcut V) does not resize objects. Ctrl T starts Free Transform, which does resize the selected layer. If that is not working then:

Did you see any error popups like this?

Do you see the bounding box and handles?

Is the layer locked? You won't see the bounding box if this is the case.

I think this is a situation that will be clear if you could show us a a screen shot of your workspace.

It needs to be full resolution, and show the document window, layers panel with problem layer selected.

It sounds like "auto-select layer" was unchecked. Look up in the options bar with the move tool active.

I thought that same thing. I finally got it to work after the 4th time resetting everything, closing photoshop, then rebooting my laptop. Thanks a ton for your response though. If I've ever had a love hate relationship this is it. Lol.
