Right after opening the program, it becomes unresponsive

I've been experiencing a frustrating issue with Photoshop recently. Right after opening the program, it becomes unresponsive. No matter what I click – whether it's a menu, tool, or document – the program acts as if it's frozen. This unresponsiveness lasts for about a minute, after which Photoshop starts to function normally again. This problem doesn't reoccur until I close and reopen the program.

I have tried all the solutions suggested on the internet, Adobe forums, and even had a service technician try to fix the problem remotely, but nothing has helped. The issue didn't start until after a certain program update, and unfortunately, reverting to previous versions hasn't resolved the problem. Uninstalling and reinstalling an older version didn't help either.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? How did you manage to resolve it?

I had highly similar problem, although it didn't last 30-40 seconds. PS froze every time it opened for about 10 seconds.

For me it was because I had Remote Connections turned on.

Edit > Preferences > Plugins > uncheck Enable Remote Connections.

Now I do not get the freezes.

Maybe you guys should make that feature asynchronous instead of a blocking call...

I was able to solve this issue by removing a font I recently installed (not through creative cloud but throug downloading the font file and clicking install). Try uninstalling any fonts you recently installed!

Are you able to look in Windows task manager and see what processes are using the CPU at the time of the slow down?

I checked this some time ago (video attached). No matter what programs I have running, Photoshop behaves the same way. After launching, you can hardly do anything for several seconds. It only responds when you move within the Photoshop window, because if you open the program and immediately minimize it to the taskbar or start doing something else in other windows, and then return to Photoshop, you still have to wait out the time when it lags. A very strange situation, and it only occurs in Photoshop. I'm slowly considering switching to different software

Resetting restores Photoshop's internal preferences, which are saved when Photoshop closes.

If they become corrupt then various issues can occur.

Quit Photoshop.
Navigate to Photoshop's Preferences folder.

Windows: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

Note: The user Library folder is hidden by default on macOS. To access files in the hidden user Library folder, see How to access hidden user library files.
Drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to the desktop or somewhere safe for a back-up of your settings
Open Photoshop.

New preferences files will be created in their original location.

You may want to backup your settings and custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences.

Before you reset your preferences

in case of future issues, I suggest you make a copy as Adobe may need one to check problematic references.

Quit Photoshop.
Go to Photoshop's Preferences folder

In the Finder, open the “Go” menu whilst holding down the Option (Alt) key.

Note for those on macOS:

Preference preservation is affected by macOS permissions,

you’ll need to allow Photoshop ‘Full Disk Access’ in your Mac OS Preferences/Security and Privacy

If that doesn't fix the issue:

Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Multithreaded Compositing - and restart Photoshop.

Still hanging?

Go to Preferences > Performance... click Advanced Settings... and uncheck "GPU Compositing" - then restart Photoshop.

Do you still have problems?

It may even be time to reinstall Photoshop.

It’s recommended that you use the Adobe CC cleaner tool to remove all traces first.

(See above about preserving preferences though! It’s worth preserving them unless they are corrupted.)

Uninstall Photoshop BUT make sure to choose the option “Yes, remove app preference”.

Once that process finishes, start the installation process and look into the “Advanced Options”. Uncheck “Import previous settings and preferences” and choose to “Remove old versions”.
