Rotate All of A Sudden Not Rotating Properly

Explorer ,
Apr 08, 2023 Apr 08, 2023

I have been using PS for 20 years and for some reason today when i select an image and go to Edit>Transform>Rotate, its only rotating the image, not the entire canvas. I have never seen this before and all i did was open PS, open the JPG and try to rotate.

Why on earth is it doing this? What is wrong? Please help.

This is a long shot, but what do you hope to accomplish by rotating slightly? If you are trying to straighten the image, try this:

  • Crop tool
  • Click the Straighten button in the options bar
  • Drag across a line you want to become vertical or horizontal, as shown below. I couldn't be precise on my iPad, but you can in PS
  • Accept the Crop

If you are trying to fix the distortion, try the Persective Crop tool.

Could you be confusing Image > Image Rotation and Edit > Transform > Rotate (or maybe even the Rotate View Tool)? Edit: Or the Crop Tool’s rotation?

Edit > Transform > Rotate would rotate the selected part of a Layer or Channel (if there is an active Selection) or the selected Layer/s.

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?

Here is what i have been doing forever that no longer is working. I don't do it Image > Image Rotation as i can't rotate slightly or easily, it forces me to type something. i need to rotate things slightly, so that is why i have been doing it like this forever;

1. Select all

2. Edit Menu > Transform > Rotate

Its doing it on every image now, here is a screenshot. Hope someone can help.

now its no longer rotating the jpg, its rotating apparently just the image and not the background.

I need it fixed to what i always do.  Please help.

I'm confused. Your Background is getting rotated, according to your Layers panel. A jpeg can only have one layer and it will always be the "Background".

Can you please define how your are using the terms "jpg" and "background" in the above sentence so we can better understand your issue?

We also need a screenshot that includes your Tools panel and the options bar for Edit > Transform > Rotate.

I figured it out. i only rotate a smaller image i paste as a layer in a bigger pic and it works fine. I have never rotated the entire image using the Edit menu.

Thanks to all for your help!

Hi nagaco@gmail.com have you tried Image Menu>Image Rotation? That rotates the entire Image/Canvas/Layers.
