Ever since I updated photoshop 2024 to 2025, I cant seem to save my files as webp anymore. this used to be a feature, im wondering if this has been removed or if its a bug. Anyone else experiencing this issue with 2025 version?

if someone knows how to still save as webp in the 2025 version without a plugin or converters let me know!

The file I was trying to save as webp was in CMYK, I didnt know webp doesnt support this, maybe this helps someone else too that has saving issues, just change the file to RGB.

WebP is still available in Photoshop CC 2025:

Same for 32 bpc mode, one needs to tone-map down to 16 bpc or 8 bpc first before WebP format is available.

Thanks for confirming the cause of your issue. Webp, as its name suggests, was designed for images displayed online and viewed onscreen. Hence it is designed around RGB images.

Indeed, a shame it isnt converted automatically when you try to save it as webp though.

That's not what Save As does... But Export As is intended to do so, Adobe just need to add WebP to Export As, among other things.

Save As Copy (that's the one we're talking about here) doesn't convert colour modes as it's just a standard save command.

If it did, the common question would then become 'Why do my colours change when I save as webp'. Colour changes should always be opted into and controlled particularly when moving from a CMYK profile to an RGB profile.

thats fair, but a nice little pop up saying 'your colours will change because adobe has to convert your CMYK to RGB' would fix that I imagine haha. The option Stephen previously mentioned to add it to 'export as' list would also work, or even the webp being greyed out with a little 'i' stating you have to convert to RGG, would just save a lot of time trying to find out why.

Yes, because WebP format is designed for the web, you can't save images as WebP when they're in CMYK colour mode.
