saving a custom workspace

Despite some warnings I always use PS beta for the following reason: in beta my custom workspace ALWAYS opens up whenever I launch it (pict 1+2) with tools in 2 columns and the layer panel under the histogram on the rightmost end.

However, in PS I never succeeded in saving this layout despite numerous "new workspace" save actions pict1.jpgpict2.jpgpict3.jpg

(pict 3). What am I missing?

Do this step by step.

1. Arrange your toolbar where, and in what layout, you want it.

2. Arrange your panels (layers, channels  etc) however you want them laid out.

3. Go to the top right of the options bar and click on the downward reveal arrow

4. Choose 'New Workspace'

5 Give your new workspace a name and ensure you check the box to include the toolbar (and Menus and Keyboard shortcuts if you want those saved in your workspace)

6. Click Save

That is it. Your newly named workspace is available whenever you need it.

Thanks, davescm. I tried your sequence but it did not work. Relaunching PS did not show the saved workspace.

That's a strange one.  Try copying the Photoshop beta your_workspace.psw file to the release version folder

C:\Users\[Your User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop (Beta)\Adobe Photoshop (Beta) Settings\WorkSpaces

image.png

Before you do that, maybe check the Photoshop 2025 settings folder to see if there is a .psw file with the right name, and if there is, what the Date modified is.

Just a thought, but when you change workspaces, I'm sure you know that they will have whatever state they were last used at?  You need to Reset the workspace to put it straight.  I have tiny actions that let me set and reset my workspaces triggered by Function keys.  It is very satisfying seeing a messed up screen tidy itself u at the press of a key.
