Saving a flattened, 8bit file as JPG not working

PS CC 2024 v25.0.0. Mac Pro (Intel) Ventura 13.5.2

So this is a new one for me.  I have an action that has up until today (10/18/2023) has always worked flawlessly.  This action is used to create a copy of a multilayered file and save as JPEG. These steps in the action have never failed and has been used daily for years.

1. Duplicate first document

2. Image Size - opens the dialog for my input

3. Convert to Profile current document - sRGB for web presentation

4. Convert Mode - convert to 8bit

5. Flatten image

6. Save - opens the dialog so I can set the Quality I want to save, and preselects the directory where my edited, web images are saved.

This has always worked for literally thousands of images but today it decided that I could only save the file that was processed by that action as if it were a multilayered 16bit file - PSD or any of the other non-JPG options. I have tried running through all the steps manually as well but same result. I have attached one of the layered PSD files that is misbehaving.  I have also attached the PSD after the action was run but it will not save as JPG.  I know the Save a Copy exists but I cannot explain why this action worked for hours yesterday but refuses to allow me to save as JPG today.  I'm stumped.

Correct answer Stephen Marsh

It's the alpha channel, which isn't supported in JPEG.

Well, how did that get there??  I would never have found that issue on my own.

That said, a heartfelt thank you for the quick response and yes it solved the issue.  Now to dig through what put that channel in there in the first place.  I'm erring on the side of a plugin that forgot to clean that up since it was an unticked channel.
