Saving and downsizing

Hello! I'm an amateur photographer with some knowledge of photoshop. I recently updated to 2024 and now I am unable to save my photos as I had been before. I may need to rework my workflow process or learn new methods but I wanted to check here first. I have a Mac and when I go to save, I no longer have the JPG format option. Is there another way to save my work so I can downsize? I have a JPF format but I can't open that in my preview to downsize.

You need to Save As a Copy or enable Legacy Save As in preferences.

Or dupe the file and ensure that it's 8 bpc, flattened and no alpha channels for JPEG to be available in Save As.

Other options include Export As or Export > Save for Web (Legacy).

@Stephen Marsh I enabled legcy save as and that fixed my problem! Thank you so much! If you don't mind, may I ask how you downsize your photos? when I do it in preview it is super slow and doesn't seem like the most affective way to do it.

You can either work on a copy and use Image > Image Size to downsample, or from the original size image use Export As or Save for Web (Legacy) which both offer the ability to resize the output on the fly without affecting the original.
