Hello Community! First time posting here!
I'm using OSX Catalina and I'm running the latest version of Photoshop. I noticed that now when I go to Save for Web (Legacy) Photoshop brings up the Save dialog box and the entire file name and extension are selected (Untitled.jpg). So when I type a file name it deletes the file extension and will not add it "automagically" like before. Save As works fine and so does Save but I like my good old Save for Web! Any other solutions?

This is fixed in the current version 22.5.1. If you rename the file without the extension, the correct extension for the file type selected in the Save For Web dialog is added when the file is saved.

Well, that would be a great solution if the APPEND FILE EXTENSION dropdown still existed. This problem is so [cursing removed by moderator] stupid, and a huge time-sucker for those of us who need to make jpegs for the web.

Is it possible it could be this simple? I've been having the same problem, and after I checked this box in the Finder Preferences, it seems to have fixed it

I have had this box checked forever and I still have the problem. Adobe doesn't give [cursing removed].

Thanks for the warm welcome, but I first posted about this issue almost a year ago, which was months after this issue was made known. Every single day this bug slows me down. Every. Single. Day. And each time it happens (did I mention that it was multiple times... daily) I curse Adobe under my breath.

Try unclicking and click on again. Sounds crazy, but it worked for me.

I tried unclicking and clicking it. I tried it again after quitting all my adobe products. I tried unclicking. Rebooting, the re-clicking. No luck. Thanks for trying though, I really appreciate your time and help!

Hi All,
Okay, I found this relpy from another user "Charles.Rose" Thanks Heaps Charles!!! And it worked for me!! Finally it worked !! So give it a try.
Here is what he did.
Under photoshop preferences/File
handling change the APPEND FILE EXTENSION dropdown from Always to Never, save, and then quit
photoshop. Reopen photoshop, and then in photoshop preferences/File handling change the APPEND FILE
EXTENSION dropdown from Never back to Always and the optionally check Use Lower Case. This seemed to
do the trick for me and now my extension appear as expected in the save image dialog boxes.

I was hopeful but no luck. When I save as, it still highlights the extension so that when I type the file name it deletes the extension and I have to re-type it as well. Thanks for trying, it's more than Adobe is doing.

Quite right. What is Adobe doing about it? Oh, right, they're too busy creating AI componants to put us hard working professionals out of a job, they don't have time to fix bugs that make are job harder!

Unfortunately, this has been a known issue for years and Sdobe doesn't care. Obviously they are too busy creating AI components to photoshop to put professionals who use photoshop for a living out of s job rather than fix things.

Recently, the "Save for Web dialoge was changed so that the ENTIRE filename and extension are selected by default. Previously, only the filename WITHOUT the extension was highlighted/selected. This change is a big productivity problem as we now have to move the cursor manually to deselect the extension and highlight the file name. Please change this back to the previous way this was done!
