Saving from psd to another format without layers should not replace current working file

Saving as is NOT INTUITIVELY meant to replace what you currently have!

Issue:

I want to save a pdf version of my current psd file in a separate folder
1. I click save as and select a different folder

2. I save the file status as pdf, and to use less memory I chose to not keep layers

3. I keep working on current file seeing my layers and nothing tells me that the file I believe I'm working on is not anymore my PSD file, but I still see and can work on my layers.

4. I make changes in different layers and save my file with shortcut (so there is no window popping up asking if I want to save layers).

5. When I re-open my file, it has nothing on it except the merged data in a single layer. Lost everything that I was doing while the file I was working on was meant to be a psd.

Save as from a psd file, format, a different name, and in a different folder, should NOT replace the current working space! At least there should be an obvious alert to tell you that what you see does not exist anymore, e.g. the layers that you see will disappear when closing the file.
