How do you save a large document file 2GB+ without loosing it? The answer in tech support said to reload Photoshop, but what about the document??

    Correct answer Trevor.Dennis

There shouldn't be a problem.  Photoshop should automatically use the PSB file extension, but you can can select it if it doesn't.  We had another thread earlier today where someone found large documents were taking a very long time to save.  The answer was to disable compression in Preferences > File handling.

Can you give us more information about your issue?  Is Photoshop crashing while saving or what?

    What Photoshop version?

    What operating system?

A brief description of the computer you are using?

    Thanks

I mean, what contributes to the size? How large in pixels? How many layers? Some people have carefully planned projects this extraordinarily large, others end up with it by accidentally making choices that have bad side effects.

Ah Photoshop Elements. We’ve Been talking about Photoshop. (Subscription). You might just have to make it smaller. What size is it?

Bigger than 2GB, so it hits the limit for PSD file saving. And Elements does not seem to offer PSB save format option...

Where can I select the PSB format? All I can see is "Photoshop" which defaults to PSD. I cannot get PS to offer me the option of PSB. Neither can I see the Large File Format option referred to in this thread. Thx!

This is a trial version of Photoshop Elements Editor running on iMac Retina 27 inch 2017, with 8GB RAM, running High Sierra 10.13.5.

On a Mac, choose the Large File Format, and that gives the file the .psb extension.

    Hi Agelad

    Try saving as a .psb

That should be able to handle a file that size.

    Hope this helps!

Is there any downside to saving as .psb?  Do you lose any data?

Many thanks for your reply. Photoshop isn’t giving me the option to choose an extension with Save. Only with Save As. I’ll try the .psb extension now with that. I’m also on Windows, but the Tutorial is for MAC so it’s confusing. And it’s not crashing, just refusing to save, telling me to go to Help/Saving Files.
