Saving PSD to JPG keeps deleting my clipping path - how do I retain the clipping path in .jpg?

Community Beginner ,

Photoshop 24.5.0 - I have a psd file that I want to save as .jpg, including the clipping path.

Whether I use "save as" or "save as copy" the .jpg file is saved, but path gets deleted.

  • It is specified as the clipping path in .psd
  • Even if I paste the path into the .jpg, and specify it, then save a caopy - it still gets deleted.

This is super frustrating and different to how this function used to be handled in previousl versions.

The only workaround I've found is:

  • Use "Flatten image" off the layers palette (so only the layer I want is now the "backgound")
  • Then use "save as", select .jpg (as it now appears in the list of formats)

Then the .jpg has the clipping path succesfully included.

Using "Save a copy" deletes the path.

I've also selected "Use legacy" in preferences without success.

UPDATE

I have found an additional workaround - File/Export/Layers to files... that retains also the paths.

Whether this was always an option or is related to a Photoshop update is a mystery.

Is the Clipping Path still there if you open the jpeg in photoshop?

Is the Clipping Path not showing in other applications?

It just seems in-efficient when previous versions of PS flattened the image and kept the clip - just by selecting .jpg from the file format list in the save dialog box - so it took one click, instead of multiple clicks in multiple places.

When this is required on a set of PSD files that numbers in the thousands, the opportunity for mistakes is huge

I wish they would remove this response as the solved answer since it is a work-around and does not always work; it is laziness on Adobe's side to remove such an important feature and then call a work-around a solution. I agree with you. This is so inefficient; I am flabergasted over this.

The only time i see that the Clipping Path is not saved with a jpeg is when using File>Export As> Jpeg

and File>Export>Save for Web.

Otherwise both File>Save As and Save a Copy retain the clipping path

here with Photoshop 2023 (ps ver 24.5) running on macOS Ventura 13.4.

Might be worth resetting the photoshop preferences to see if that makes a difference:

I have the same problem and cannot get the workaround to save the clipping path. This is mind-boggling to me that Adobe would remove this feature.

I have reset my settings, restarted PS, and restarted my computer. Nothing is fixing this.

I am using Photoshop 24.6 on Mac OS Ventura Version 13.4.1
