Scale Proportionately

With Photoshop 2020, I learned that you no longer had to hold the shift keep when scaling proportionately.  All I had to do was drag the anchor points.  Somehow I've changed my settings where I have to hold shift down again.  Can someone help me figure out what I changed.  I really don't want to have to remember to hold shift.

Thanks,

Dorian

Hi

The second place to look is in the options bar after you have done Cmd+T for Free Transform. There is a link box inbetween the width and height that can be toggled to be proportional or distorted.

I tried checking this box.  It still requires the shift key to keep it proportionate.

Checking the box activates the old "Legacy" behaviour (Shift key required)

Unchecking it activates the new behaviour (no Shift required)

It still doesn't work for me.  I unchecked it and restarted PS.  It doesn't adjust proportionately.   I don't know if it makes a different, but I'm a Mac user.

Alt key now allows Free Transform to work (scale) proportionally.

OMG, that worked!!  Thank you so much!!

Another thing I noticed though, maybe after toggling the retain aspect ratio, is the X, that goes through my element, isn't showing any more.

You're welcome, Dorian, and I'm so glad it worked. I don't know what you mean by the X isn't showing anymore. (I love your cat!)

I don't know how to explain it and I don't know the techincal term.  lol  I'm just thrilled to have my proportion feature back!!  I can't take credit for the cat.  I'm a digital scrapbooker.  A kit designer created it for me.  🙂

Oh, this "X"! Thanks, PE_C.

Dorian, your transform widget was not enabled, so you no wonder you remembered it as an "X"!

Cheers,

Jane

Hello, since Ps CC 2018, the reference point is hidden, there is a button in the option bar to show it: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/transforming-objects.html#set_or_move_the_reference_point_fo...
