Scaling problem when pasting smart objects from Illustrator to Photoshop

Software used:

Photoshop CC 2019

Illustrator CC 2019

I have a 1920x1080px Artboard in Illustrator and a 1920x1080px empty document in Photoshop.

If I make a full page 1920x1080px sized rectangle in Illustrator and paste it as a smart object in Photoshop, the scale of the image is way off. The pasted object is sized 8000x4500px.

Any ideas why?

The funny thing is, if I have the 1920x1080px Illustrator rectangle copied to my clipboard, and press cmd+N for a new document, Photoshop offers to create a 1920x1080px @72ppi sized document based on the contents of the clipboard.

Oh! That did the trick. Thanks!!

The Photoshop document was 1920x1080px @300ppi. After changing it to 1920x1080px @72ppi, there's no scaling.

I kind of understand the logic, but not quite, since both Illustrator and Photoshop documents are set to a certain pixel size, not metric size.

Yeah, but in Photoshop the resolution determines the spatial extension of the pixels

in my case everything is working properly, you may try close illustrator and clear clipboard,

if that does not work, reset the preference for both Photoshop & illustrator

Thanks, but this didn't help. The problem seemed to be a mismatch in pixels per inch (see below).
