Script to add layer name as text layer...

Hey Gang,

Let's say I'm making a class composite like the one seen below.  The student's names are the present in the layer names.  Is anyone willing to make a script that will copy their name (from the layer name) and post it below their photo?  Is this possible?  Thoughts?  Ideas?

I know nothing about scripting.  😞 Thank you so much for any advice/help!

If you can provide a download link to the high resolution layered file I'll take a look at the script. You can redact the faces to retain privacy and change the names to fake ones. It might be a good idea to do the same for the sample screenshot.

In case you have a full CC license I would recommend to do such (what essentially appears to be) contact sheets in Indesign, though.

To avoid difficulties in positioning text, I usually make sure that all the necessary text fields are in the layout at once.

A couple of years ago I wrote a script for similar tasks. It allows you to parse the name of the selected layer into separate words and compose lines from them. The settings are saved as a template and can be applied to other layers. Thanks to the help of @r-bin , it was possible to support text styles and achieve the most accurate preservation of the position of the text field even with a significant change in its size. Here is a video of it working:

But there is one little problem: it is focused on the Russian language 😄 If necessary, I can translate the interface elements into English and post link to this script

Cool plugin, but the Russian would stop me in my tracks. 🙂
