I am new to Photoshop and don't have the "Show Search Bar" option in the Brushes settings nor the "Show Search Bar" in the Patterns settings. I am using the 21.2.7 release on a MacBook. Can anyone help please, thank you.

There have been several updates to Photoshop since ver 21 came out. The current release version is 22.3.1 if your computer and GPU meet the min-requirements.
Before you upgrade, check each one of these.

Thank you Nancy - it is likely that my computer can't meet the requirements for 22.3.1

Hi Jane
Select the brush tool and right click inside the document window
Click on the cog icon top right corner
These are the settings I use, and as a new user it would be a good idea to have all the options turned on like I have to give you the best possible idea of what the various presets are for and look like.
I don't know who thought that thse would make a good default set of patterns
So go right ahead and load the Legacy Patterns. Oh, and turn on the search bar. Note: It can only look for patterns that are loaded in the main window.

Thank you Trevor for your answer and particularly the screen shots. On my system Photoshop isn't offering the Show Search Bar options as I don't think my computer supports the latest version.

The current pattern panel is fairly new, but the right click brush panel has had the search option for a while. Do you know what version you are using? Click on Help > About Photoshop and it will tell you.
