Select Subject not working properly in newest software 25.11

I updated to 25.11  a few days ago.  Then i was very strange selections all over the image. When I pressed the select subject button.   It seemed to work if I did the cloud based option.

I use an action to select a portrait subject from a solid grey background.  Then it pops in my background .

I have been using this action for months.   I tried rebooting ,  all the normal things.   This problem when away when I went back to a previous version.

Same issue with 26.0.0 when you use Select > Subject.

Similarly, using any selection tool and then clicking the Select Subject button with "Device" selected gives you worthless results.

If you use any selection tool and employ the Select Subject button with "Cloud" selected, it appears to work fine. The Object Selection Tool works great as long as you avoid the Select Subject button.

which previous version did you go back to? I tried a previous version and it seemed to still be absolute garbage

Same issue here - seems to be ignoring the choice in the dropdown (device vs cloud) next to the select subject button in the toolbar.

Workaround is to set your image processing default preferences to Cloud, and using Select > Subject - seems to provide the expected higher-quality selection.

Hey, @djphotoman21 & @djphotoman21. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > upload & attach here.

Ensure there are no stale preferences in your Photoshop. Go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to backup.

  • Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
  • You can press Press the Windows key > Enter 'Run' > Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe
  • Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2024 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2024. old), you can later restore these preferences if needed.(https://adobe.ly/4860qM9)
  • Restart the computer.

These changes will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a fresh install. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!
