Something  on your Mac is hijacking shortcuts. You should find out what.

In my case, 'PowerToys' interfered with Photoshop's Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E shortcut. I couldn't identify which PowerToys function was using this shortcut. If someone knows and can share a way to disable it, please let me know. Currently, the only workaround is to exit PowerToys when using Photoshop.

Same problem. Another app Clickup, was hijacking the shortkeys. it didn't even have a command option shift E shortkey, just a shift E one. Disabling the shortkeys on that app fixed it though

@Glauco O. M.

For testing purposes, does it work when you hold down the option key and use the Layers panel menu to Merge Visible?

Exactly how doesn't it work? Is it not producing a new merged layer at all, or does the merged layer not have the content you expect?

It works just fine here, for what that's worth.

@Glauco O. M.

Important: Save first (or Save followed by Save As with new name) and choose Undo after each.

Try these to Merge layers to see if they work without the Option key:

  • Cmd+Shift+E
  • Layers panel menu > Merge visible

Do either or both work?

Both commands work,

That's not what I'm looking for.

@Glauco O. M.

Go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts

Are you using a custom (saved) set or a modified (unsaved) set or the Default set?

Either:

  • Reset the shortcuts to Default (which will reset all shortcuts)
    or
  • See what the shortcut is for Merge Layers. It should be Cmd+Shift+E.
    (You won't find Stamp Layers in keyboard shortcuts; you will only find Merge Layers
    Stamp Layers needs the Option key with either the shortcut or the menu command)

Details here:

Cmd+Shift+E = flatten the layers. = ok

Shift+Command+Option+E = Merge a copy of all visible layers into new layer - doesnt working anymore!

in Photoshop previous versions worked normally!

Is this command working in your Photoshop 24?

@Glauco O. M.

Sometimes other applications take over keyboard shortcuts — it can even be a browser. You can try rebooting, then run nothing but Photoshop to see if the shortcut works.

You can also use an awkward workaround in the interim. Before Adobe gave us the Option (Alt) key addition to the Merge Visible shortcut, we did it this way:

  • Save or Save As
  • Duplicate the layers
  • Hide the original layers
  • Merge Visible (menu or Cmd+Shift+E)
  • Show the Hidden layers

This had me confused for a while, but then I found that the layers need to be selected in the layers palette for the key command to work...

Well it's true for me and it might well be true for some those for whom it doesn't work. You shouldn't be so quick to dismiss problems simply because you don't have them. If you went to a doctor with a concern, you'd be disappointed if their response was mearly to tell you how well they feel.

I'm on an older operating system, so possibly it's an OS issue...

It's not necessary to select the layers. All visible content is merged into a new layer.

Sorry, but no. Merge a copy of All Visible has never worked that way.
Shift+Command+Option+E/Shift+Alt+Ctrl+E  is what we're talking about here.

That's what I mean. Shift+ctrl+alt+E.

Again, scroll up to see my screenshots.

I just needed to emphasize that the layers didn't need to be selected.

@D Fosse I was replying to @Jeremy JR .
Sure would be nice if these threads could go deeper than a single level, but i guess the technology hasn't yet been invented 😢 or maybe the admins here could enable Reply to auto-fill the @ name...

@Earth Oliver oh, sorry, caught in the nested reply trap again...yeah I hate it too. I'd use linear view, except sometimes you need to see it like everybody else does - if for nothing else, to misunderstand in the same way 😉

If you change your setting from threaded to linear, you will see that you actually did reply to @D Fosse 🙂
