Shorten a graduation Sash

I have a client who wants me to level out/shorten her graduation sash (her right side) to match the left.  I have looked on the forums and online and have not been able to find a solution in PS.  Can someone point me to an article or send me the instruction on how to accomplish this?

Hi,

Would she be okay with lengthening the one on the right?

To shorten the one on the left, you will need to recreate the leg, background, and lacy dress. Lengthening the other is just recreating the maroon and gold.

Either way, make a good selection — the Pen tool is best, then convert to a selection — and then use the Clone Stamp tool to get the pixels from another area.

I honestly think the original picture is more interesting & natural feeling.  If you even up the sash ends, the writing on the sash is not lined up properly & looks odd.  I would advise the client to leave it alone.   Or as Ussnorway said, re-take the photo.

    This is a fantastic image, with a wonderful capturing-the-moment freshness.

    So I'm with Nancy here. Why does it have to be perfectly symmetrical?  And I would certainly not try to reshoot - not in this case. Chances are it won't be nearly as good.

    In short, tell the client to not even think about ruining this image

      This came in as a large file, about 10 x15 500 ppi. I worked on it at that size without realizing it. Then to get it to post, I had to call up the Forum via Chrome because the Forum via Safari is having big problems at the moment. Even then, I had to change the size.. The image on my monitor has greater saturation and contrast than the image above, and matches the OP. Drat!

        Hi

        With some cloning you can do this. One tip -remember the clone tool can be reversed left to right so that your clone is flipped - useful for the dress.
