For over 20 years, I have battled the menu tree to show/hide selection edges.
I toggle this on/off 20x each time I am editing.

Does the prolitariat need to sieze the means of production in order to get a keyboard shortcut?

It's listed as "Extras", so you're forgiven for missing it. It also hides guides and a few other things.

But if you look below the main entry, there's also listed the individual elements that go under this umbrella, including selection edges - which means you can make a custom shortcut just for that if you wish.

Generally - if there's a menu item for it, you can make a shortcut (and also for tools and panel menus).

Ctrl (Cmd) H toggles all enabled extras visability. That is to say, they will still be active, but will not show on the image. You can see those functions in the View menu.

This PDF has a full list of Photoshop shortcuts.  It's on the Photoshop Help server, so should be updated when required, and it has a useful search function.

It's always worth trying the Discover Help panel (Cmd F or click on the magnifing glass icon in the top right corner.  It was not especially helpful in this instance, but did link to the same shortcuts PDF.   I like to think I know Photoshop pretty well, but there are times when I forget where a function is located, and Discover usually points the way.
