In a mask I was previously able to press the right and left arrow key next to the shift key. Show my mask in color. Unfortunately, this only works if I have switched from the brush to the standard top left in advance. Unfortunately, that takes a lot of time there and I would be happy if it worked again as usual.

Could you please post a meaningful screenshot to illustrate the issue?

I for one don’t even understand what you mean by »switched from the brush to the standard top left« for example?

That is the Move tool. Post a screen shot showing the Layers and Channels panels. The mask should be in the Channels panel, and it must be selected in order to paint on it.
