show transform/sizing handles SOLUTION

Somehow, my transform/resizing handles disappeared when working on a layer, after selecting the layer/image. I wanted them to appear when I clicked on a layer, so I could resize on the working screen.

To fix this, Go to your preferences under performance: make sure the legacy compositing box is ticked. (see image). In Preferences/Workspace, also UNTICK the Enable Narrow Options Bar. This allows you to see the Show Transform Controls tick box. (see image).
