Simple PNG automation

Hey everyone. I'm a very basic Photoshop user, but am familiar with the Actions recording. I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion of how I could record a very simple action for batch processing. All I want to do is OPEN a png file (original 3000x3000) and then save a copy at 2000x2000 with Smaller File/8-bit checked. It's vexing me how I can't figure out how to record something as simple as this. 

I have Bridge too if this helps.

Have you tried using Save for Web?
