Slow launching [Mac Book Pro 7.1]

I was advised to post this in the Photoshop Forum even though this affects all my Adobe apps (and ONLY my Adobe apps).

 

I purchased a 7,1 2019 Mac Pro in July 2020 and this problem has plagued me daily every since then. I am wondering if this is just normal on an Intel 12-core with 96Gig Ram and w5700x GPU and applications loaded on NVRAM internal RAID 0?

Photoshop = appx 45-seconds to one-minute to launch (ready to start work)
Illustrator = appx 45-seconds
InDesign = appx one-minute
After Effects = always over one-minute
Dreamweaver = appx 45-seconds

These delays really add up! All non-Adobe apps open really fast. What is Photoshop doing for a minute or so wiith just the splashscreen showing?

On my little 2021 M1 MacBook Pro with the same CS apps installed, everything launches almost instantly (both Adobe apps and other apps)

    Photoshop's splash screen shows what it is loading as it boots.  Can you identify a problem area from that screen?  Fonts come to mind.  If all those apps have to load fonts and there is a problem font, then it might slow them all down.  Of course, the problem with that is that other apps, that you say load much quicker, might also be loading fonts.

     

    It might be that Adobe apps check the fonts while loading, and the other apps ignore them till asked to use them.  I'm homing in on fonts as an example, but have a close look at thet splash screen and check for clues.

     

    If you open Photoshop while holding down the shift key, it forces it to ignore third party plugins and extensions.  That only helps with Photoshop though.

     

    What are the other apps that load more quickly?  I won't be able to test myself as I use Windows, but other people will help.

     

    I checked loading timess anyway:

    Photoshop 6 seconds

    Illustrator <4 seconds

     

    Non-Adobe apps

    Publisher 1 second

    Word 1 second

    Outlook 1 second

     

    Perhaps Adobe apps take longer because they are so complex?

    I ran some more tests. Since Photoshop and After Effects splash screens show what is loading, here are some results:

    PHOTOSHOP (Try 1):

    From double-click to splash screen appearing: 5 Seconds

    Then says MMX Core Routine for 45 seconds, then opened.

     

    PHOTOSHOP (Try 2):

    From double-click to splash screen appearing: 5 Seconds

    Then says Adding Extension MultiCore Support for 45 seconds

    Then Done Sorting Font List (split second), then opened.

     

    PHOTOSHOP (Try 3) - Shift Key held down:

    From double-click to splash screen appearing: 5 Seconds

    Then says Adding Extension Halide Bottlenecks for 45 seconds

    Then Done Sorting Font List (split second), then opened.

     

    PHOTOSHOP (Try 4):

    From double-click to splash screen appearing: 5 Seconds

    Then says Adding Extension Halide Bottlenecks for 45 seconds

    Then Done Sorting Font List (split second), then opened.

     

    AFTER EFFECTS:

    From double-click to splash screen appearing: 45 Seconds

    Then Installing MediaCore another 45 seconds

    Then open.

    Trevor,  thanks for the follow-up. This is not a big rush, after all, I have been dealing with this nuisance daily for over 3 years!


    @johnd59898678 experiencing Kernel panics on Mac OS usually means bad hardware - either the CPU or disk drives causing the failure. Software does not cause Kernel panics.
