Slow response when typing

Issue: Whenever a type something is Photoshop with the text tool, there's considerable lag between the time that I type on my keyboard and the time that the character appears on the screen. Sometimes I finish typing an entire word and photoshop didn't even show the first character. This is epecially *annoying* because the "blinking bar" moves correctly, but the character take time to appear. This means is hard to correct mistakes while typing.

  • Photoshop version: 27.7.0
  • OS: Windows 10 64 bit

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open photoshop and create an empty document
  2. Use the type tool to type something
  3. Notice the lag

The experience can be noticed more if you compare the way typing works on Illustrator/Indesign and Photoshop.

Expected result: Smooth typing, character appear while the key is pressed.
Actual result: Lag between the time the key is pressed and the time that the character appear.

I recorded a video showing the way it works in PS and Ai.

My video is 60fps.

I have an i7 9th generetion processor with an RTX 3060 12 GB. So I suspect that has nothing to do with hardware.

189 fonts. Most of them came with Windows.

I don't think this should be a problem, since Illustrator and InDesign work just fine.

Maybe Photoshop should implement those font engines then because they are superior.

Not going to get into the weeds but basically AI and InDesign utilize vectors while Photoshop is a raster program. That being said, the lag is not normal. You can try deleting the font cache and resetting preferences.

Same here. Its just Adobe making everything crap. They target basic things like, USING IT, and make it difficult so you need an expert to trouble shoot.

Issue, 'type something in normal text like you have been doing for yers', see NOTHING AT ALL until you select another element. Totally useless if you have a few lines of text. This is not a strange error when doing something odd, its a basic TEXT ENTRY ERROR on one of the most fundemental features.
